Accessible Approach/Entrance

  • Stability of route of travel (slip-resistant)
  • Route of travel not requiring use of stairs
  • Route of travel at least 36” wide
  • Objects can be detected by person with visual disability using a cane
  • Curbs have curb cuts at drives, parking, and drop off
  • No entrance ramps to hamper access to the theater

Parking and Drop-Off Areas

  • There are two parking garages attached to the building
    • St. Joe’s Parking Garage: 72 N. Clinton Avenue
    • 4-5 accessible parking spaces on each floor that are van accessible with appropriate signage and clear routes to the elevators
    • Mortimer Street Ramp Garage: 25 N. Clinton Ave: free parking on evenings and weekend
  • Van accessible spaces with minimum of 8’ wide access aisles with hash marks and 98” of vertical clearance for lift-equipped vans
  • Drop off with accessible path for paratransit users
  • Accessible spaces marked with International Symbol of Accessibility
  • Additional paid street parking available with curb cuts
    • Parking Spaces within 50 yards of the entrance

Entrance

  • At least 18” of clear wall on the pull side of door, next to handle
  • Threshold edge is accessible with edge 1/4” high or less
  • Door handle no higher than 48” and operable with a closed fist
  • Additional entrance to building off of Franklin Street

Rooms and Spaces

  • Aisles and pathways to materials and services at least 36” wide
  • 18” clearance when using double door
  • 5’ circle or T-shaped space for turning a wheelchair completely
  • Obstacles are cane-detectable in circulation paths through public areas

Seats, Tables, and Counters

  • Aisles with fixed seating at least 36” wide
  • Spaces for wheelchair seating distributed throughout with companion seating
  • Counters for tickets and concessions accessible with a 36” wide section and free space in front of no less than 30” x 48”
  • Water fountain spout no higher than 36” and can be operated independently (with a closed fist) — clear space around fountain

Elevator

  • Access to all levels
  • Call buttons no higher than 42”
  • 60” diameter circle or t-turns with shut doors
  • Car controls no higher than 48” with emergency controls no higher than 35”
  • Audible tones to determine floors passed
  • Visual cues on the elevator and at the vestibule indicating floor and direction of elevator

Restrooms

  • Accessible restroom with doorway at least 32” clear
  • Pictograms used to identify restrooms (includes braille)
  • Restroom doors equipped with accessible handles (operable with a closed fist and 48” high or less)
  • Adequate maneuvering space for a person using a wheelchair (6.5’)
  • 36” wide path to all fixtures
  • Toilet seat less than 19” high
  • Faucet operable with closed fist
  • Soap and paper towel dispensers not higher than 44”
