Mid-Century Modern Jazz Quartet

The Mid-Century Modern Jazz Quartet plays straight-up jazz from the period known in design circles as Mid-Century Modern, basically the '40s through the '60s. The MCMJQ features RIT Professor Emeritus Al Biles on trumpet & flugelhorn, Chuck Dye on 7-string guitar, Bruce Goldman on upright bass, and Steve Gates on drums. Their eclectic repertoire includes unique arrangements of tunes by Miles, Monk, Mobley, Rollins, Porter, Shorter, Golson, Gershwin, Ellington, Mancini, Jobim, and many others.

Documentary Short Films: RIT Photojournalism

Visual storytelling is about empathy, depth, and substance. This faculty-selected program presents cinematic, documentary short films created by photojournalism students from RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. Each film brings human-centered awareness to the stories of people, social issues and events from Rochester and beyond. These are the capstone projects for students completing their BFA degrees in photography with a focus on photojournalism.

Poetry of Tarot: A Reading Inspired by Tarot Images

Symbols on each card carry archetypal meaning, inviting the reader to interpret, imagine, and project their inner world outward. In this experience, tarot cards become a creative catalyst: a spark for poetry, a framework for collective storytelling, and a bridge for genuine human connection.

Powder Jay

Jamie Cheeseman is a singer-songwriter and Central New York native who performs under the stage name "Powder Jay." He will be providing a blend of folk and hip-hop utilizing beatbox, a guitar, and a loop station. He will be performing original works that span his 30 years as an underground recording artist. "PITCH!" is a new musical revue based on the true story of Paul and Jane Wargo, told in a reflective style by their granddaughter, performer Jessica Ann Best. "PITCH!" tells the story of Paul, a Rochester Red Wings pitcher from Pennsylvania, who meets and marries the sweet singer and secretary, Jane, after World War II. "PITCH!" brings the "Great American Pastime" and the "Great American Songbook" to life in a beautiful and true love story that leaves an impression on many generations.
