Only the Dead

The year is 1917, and The Great War has been raging on for three years. As each day passes, it becomes less likely that the war will end soon. Evy Clark-Carew is a young woman in Essex, who struggles to distract herself while her husband James is away at war. When James suddenly shows up, appearing lost and confused—an emptier version of himself, Evy is overjoyed to see him, though she can’t help but wonder why he was released on leave after only two months since his last break.
