Inspired by the creative resilience of Frederick Douglass and the modern migrant experience, Sound of Sanctuary (SOS) is a co-created musical work made possible by the GVCA’s Aid to Localities Grant, which weaves co-authored original songwriting, interviews, and field recordings into one 10-track live album, a sonic snapshot that archives and amplifies Rochester’s first- and second-generation migrant voices.

The Ego & The Oracle

Part improvisational theater, part cabaret, part audience participation, The Ego & The Oracle is a live stage spectacular where shuffle play meets the I-Ching. Audience members are invited on stage to ask personal questions of The Oracle. They then spin a giant wheel containing songs by Jim's Big Ego. When the wheel stops, the band performs the chosen song, which is then interpreted as the answer to the question by author Shawn Peters.
