Dances at MuCCC: Contemporary Dance

Known for its experimental delights, the Multi-use Community Cultural Center premieres a special Fringe version of Dances at MuCCC, a collection of local performance talent and creativity. For the first time, this annual dance festival appears at Fringe, showcasing a curated collection of its best summer dance performances. This past June, MuCCC presented Moving Margins to the Center. Co-directed by Donna Davenport and Nanako Horikawa Mandrino; logo by Jimmy Scamacca.

Leïla Ka: Pode Ser

Award-winning, Paris-based Leïla Ka ventures into raw dialogue, through diverse choreographic languages, in search of the multiple identities that constitute a person. Entering dance through hip-hop and later performing for Maguy Marin, Leïla Ka confronts the relationship to self, others and society, throwing herself into a never-ending struggle in her prize-winning solo Pode Ser. Paired with additional acclaimed works, University of Rochester’s Program of Dance & Movement proudly presents Leïla Ka’s USA debut. This engagement is part of the Albertine Dance Season and has received support from Villa Albertine Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S.

Velocity Performance

Velocity is a student-run urban dance team at RIT. We aim to foster a positive and supportive environment, so our members can express themselves freely. Our goal has always been to leave everything on the dance floor and nothing less, whether it be in practice, on stage, or in hosting our annual event: RIT’s Best Dance Crew (RBDC). For the Rochester Fringe Festival, the team is performing various pieces choreographed by different crew members.
