It was called "the front door to freedom." From 1892 to 1930, Ellis Island was the first experience of life in America for millions of immigrants. Voices from the Resistance

Who were they? Just ordinary people: school teachers, plumbers, bus drivers, shop keepers, bakers, housewives, students, even children. But they led Jews to freedom, rescued Allied soldiers, printed newspapers, blew up bridges, and risked their lives every day to do what they could to cripple the Third Reich. Using diaries, letters, oral histories and autobiographies, Pippa White will introduce you to five World War II resistance fighters: their stories are frightening, inspiring, and true!

WADAIKO Performance

We are WADAIKO—Rochester's one and only taiko group! Based at the Rochester Institute of Technology, WADAIKO is here to bring everyone the joy and energy of Japanese taiko drumming. Join us as we play a selection of our favorites: traditional Japanese songs, modern Western taiko compositions, and even a self-composed piece. Waiting for Guffman

We all miss the natural wit of comedy icon Catherine O’Hara, who died in January, but thankfully it is preserved for us in her films and TV shows. This improv mockumentary is one of her showcase films. O’Hara portrays the lead actress in a community theatre production. Egos and eccentricities abound, and the all-star ensemble–among them O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Fred Willard, and Parker Posey–perfectly captures the hopes of hometown thespians.

Window Scrolling

In a storefront where visibility replaces audibility, performance becomes an act of longing. Audiences gather on the street, watching through glass as a series of string-based works unfold—string quartets, duos, solos, and avant-garde compositions with mannequin-like movers suspended between motion and stillness. At select moments, a few audience members may be invited inside, crossing the threshold from observer to participant. Within, sound returns—intimate, immediate, and immersive.
