Garth Fagan Dance is rooted in African traditions, Caribbean stories,  and the Black dance vocabulary Fagan TechniqueTM. Garth Fagan Dance is founded by the man who taught more than 100 million audience members to move as one global community through Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway! Over decades, Garth used Fagan Technique to build a platform of social justice, creative leadership, and innovation to build community engagement and unique partnerships that reach audiences. Celebrating 52 years in 2022, the company recently being welcomed into the “Archives of the Library of Congress,“has been referred to as a 20th Century dance treasure, and Garth as the longest running Black Choreographer on Broadway!

Accessible Approach/Entrance

  • Enter through “Montage” (entrance doors on Lawn Street)

Parking and Drop-Off Areas

  • 3 accessible parking spaces reserved for the event with 8’ wide access aisle and 98” of vertical clearance
  • Accessible space is closest to accessible entrance on proper route
  • Accessible space marked with International Symbol of Accessibility
  • Enter through the parking lot gate located on Lawn Street, push the intercom button, and say that you’re here to attend the Garth Fagan event and need accessible parking
  • Once parked, cross the small parking lot and exit through the gate on Chestnut Street. Cross Lawn Street (corner or Chestnut Street) to enter through “Montage”

Entrance

  • Enter through “Montage” (entrance doors on Lawn Street) then follow hallway on your right
  • Main entrance and threshold are accessible
  • Entrance door has at least 32” of clear opening with at least 18” of clear wall on the pull side of door, next to handle
  • Door handle no higher than 48” and operable with closed fist
  • Route of travel is slip resistant and at least 36” wide, except elevator door which is 32” wide
  • Objects can be detecting by person with visual disability using a cane
  • Take elevator to 3rd floor

Rooms and Spaces

  • Aisles and pathways to materials and services at least 36” wide
  • 5’ space for turning a wheelchair completely
  • Obstacles are cane-detectable in circulation paths in public areas

Seats, Tables, and Counters

  • No fixed seating which allows for rearranging - can make accommodations on the spot

Elevator

  • Elevator to the performing space on the 3rd floor
  • Call button in hallway no higher than 42”

Restrooms

  • Accessible restrooms
  • Doorway to restroom is at least 32” clear
  • Entrance doors have round door knobs
  • Adequate maneuvering space for a person using a wheelchair
  • 36” wide path to all fixtures
  • Accessible stall with grab bars behind and on the side of wall nearest to the toilet
  • Stall doors close with twist knob (turn and lock)
  • Faucet operable with closed fist
