      The SOTA Black Box Theatre is the perfect venue for experimental theatre, one-act shows, dramatic pieces, small musical presentations and pieces where audience involvement is key to the success of the production. Seating is positioned on three sides; the maximum capacity is 90-100. 



      School of the Arts’ Ensemble Theatre is an acoustic jewel box designed for chamber ensemble, choral and musical presentations. Seats 225.

  • Route of travel is slip resistant and at least 36 in wide
  • Objects can be detected by person with visual disability using a cane
  • Curbs have curb cuts at drives, parking, and drop off

  • Width between railings at least 36 inches
  • No ramp to top café but available seating below

Parking and Drop-Off Areas

  • 4 accessible parking spaces available, with 8-foot-wide access aisle, 2 of which have 98 inches vertical clearance for vans
  • Accessible space is closest to accessible entrance on proper route
  • Accessible space marked with International Symbol of Accessibility
  • Accessible parking also available at the MAG (Memorial Art Gallery) across the street, if needed

  • Flat entrance from lot, slight slope from sidewalk in front
  • Entrance door has at least 32 inches of clear opening with at least 18 inches of clear wall on the pull side of door, next to handle
  • Threshold edge is accessible
  • Door can be opened with automatic button

  • Aisles and pathways to materials and services at least 36 inches wide
  • 5-foot space for turning a wheelchair completely
  • Obstacles are cane-detectable in circulation paths through public areas

Seats, Tables, and Counters

  • Aisles between fixed seating at least 36 inches wide
  • Spaces for wheelchair seating distributed throughout

Elevator

  • Elevator available but needs a key to operate it
  • Ask Box Office for assistance

Restrooms

  • Accessible restrooms with pictograms used to identify restrooms (includes braille)
  • Doorway to restroom is at least 32 inches clear with accessible handles
  • Adequate maneuvering space for a person using a wheelchair
  • 36-inch-wide path to all fixtures
  • Accessible stall with grab bars behind and on the side of wall nearest to the toilet
  • Stall door: opens out / have to pull handle
  • Faucet operable with closed fist (easy to turn)
